About Freemasonry
Do you know somebody who is a Mason? Have you asked him about Freemasonry? Why not?
Your friend is proud of Freemasonry and the fine character of its members. Maybe he's
dropped a few hints or spoken about his Lodge. But he knows Masons must join of their
own free will and accord. So out of respect for yours, he doesn't ask you to join.
You must ask him. He surely has a brochure or pamphlet he can share with you that
will tell you what Freemasonry is, who Freemasons are, what they believe in and what
they do. If he doesn't, then perhaps these few words will help you decide. In the end,
you must understand that those who desire membership must seek it on their own.
Too many good men have lacked this understanding and have missed the opportunity to
become better men and enjoy the privileges of Membership and the fellowship Freemasonry.
Perhaps after you have read this, you will ask your friend to answer any questions you
might have. If he offers you a petition, then you can be certain that he is paying you
the highest compliment and he thinks very highly of you.
What is Freemasonry?
Freemasonry is the world's oldest and largest Fraternity. With traditions and history
dating back to the deepest antiquity, it's sole purpose is to make good men better. We
believe that the bonds of friendship, compassion, and brotherly love can transcend the
most terrible conflicts, political, military or religious. For centuries, Freemasons
have regarded the Lodge as a place of refuge from divisiveness and indecency. The Lodge
is not a place of worship, nor a place for politics. Freemasonry is a friend to all
religions that are based in the belief in one God, and all parties that uphold the
principles of liberty and justice for all.
Who are Freemasons?
Many of our nations most ardent early patriot were Freemasons; among the signers of the
Constitution were thirteen Masons. George Washington was the first of fourteen presidents
who were Masons. Each believed that service to his fellow man was his highest calling.
There are many millions of Freemasons around the world, and we come from virtually every
occupation and profession. But when we meet, we are among equals, and we conduct our
affairs in peace and harmony. It is a remarkable thing that wherever Freemasons
come together, they set aside political or religious differences and call each other "Brother!"
What do Freemason believe?
All Freemasons believe in God and respect for fellow men.
What do Freemasons do?
Freemasons cheerfully comform to the moral and civil laws of the nation, knowing that
it is the duty of all respectable citizens and the only way to regulate one's conduct. But
Freemasons are also men of charity and good works. Freemasonry remains one of the world's
greatest philanthropy. Freemasons, through the various causes they support, donate millions of
dollars each day toward making the world better. These services to mankind represent our
firmest commitment to humanitarian relief and is important to the Fraternity.
What is a Lodge?
A Masonic Lodge is the place where Freemasons meet once or twice a month to conduct their
affairs. This includes welcoming new members, the regular business of the Lodge, and
the various other programs and charitable works, which strengthen the bonds of friendship
and fellowship.
