News and Announcements

Our very own W. Russ Campbell and B. Ray Palmer made the headlines of the Tri-City Herald on Saturday, December 4th. There were photographed driving their Masonic Shuttle carts at Columbia Center Mall on Friday. For more on the story see the Tri-City Herald's web site at http://www.tri-cityherald.com/tch/local/story/5871143p-5784420c.html.

On December 7th, we held a third degree for B. David Steene at our stated meeting. We had invaluable assistance from Kennewick Lodge No. 153, for which we are very grateful. Please join us in extending a warm welcome to our new brother.

We visited Waitsburg Lodge, No. 16 on December 13th for their Annual Oyster Feed and Past Master's Night. MW Grand Master Satoru Tashiro visited and spoke about the benefits of the tight knit nature of Masonry in communities like ours as well as the challenges we face in preserving what we value so much in the Craft.

Dates and Events

We will be having our monthly dinner on January 18th at 6:30 PM. Contact W. Russ Campbell (735-1966) for details.

From the East

My step-father recently gave a very nice hand bag to my mother. On its exterior was inscribed "PETA--Not made with animals". She's a member of PETA and whatever you might think of PETA, my mother's heart is in the right place when it comes to kindness and charity. Ironically though, inside the bag was the ever-present label "Made in China", another issue she feels strongly about.

How is PETA's bag made in China different from the rich lawyer who slams the door in the girl-scout's face saying "I already gave at the office", or the elegant lady who turns her nose up at the beggers lined up on the street because she already gave to somebody a block away? What is it that makes animals more important than Chinese slave labor?

Perhaps that PETA bag did save some animals but in return it helped enslave some child to cut costs. In doing so it failed to pass a simple test of integrity well understood by all Masons. Charity is a path, not a signpost. We are ever mindful that acts of charity are performed in everyday kindnesses, and the occasional gift at one signpost or another does not absolve us from always staying on our well lighted path.

May the coming year be one filled with everyday acts of kindness and charity.

Visitation

Our program of crashing lodges in District 23 continues. Naturally we don't announce when or where the next crash is so as to not spoil the surprise. So far this year we have successfully crashed Euclid Lodge, No. 125 November 11th. We are also considering crashing some lodges in other districts. To find out more, please contact W. Russ Campbell at 735-1966.

Communications

This month, we start publishing the Trestleboard electronically. Brothers who wish to receive it by e-mail rather than by U.S. mail can help us save some money on the cost of copying and postage.

If you would like to receive yours electronically, please send an e-mail to B. Dan Walsh at tradepst@bossig.com. You will be added to the electronic mailing list and removed from the postal mailing list.

We are always interested in news from brethren who have been out of touch for while. Please send us the latest about you and your family so that we can keep the brethren up to date.

History

Pasco Lodge is coming up on its 100th anniversary in 2008. We are just beginning to plan for this auspicious event. If you have any information of historical value related to the Lodge, please contact W. Cliff Groff at 783-8836 or ocgroff@aol.com.

We recently updated the list of Past Masters. See http://webpages.charter.net/chassin/pasco173/past_masters.htm.

Education

B. Terry Crabb has been working diligently on our new Music Scholarship program. We are looking forward to our first event in the spring, at which graduating Pasco High School students will present a musical program.

Transportation

Do you want a ride to and from Lodge? We can arrange for a brother to pick you up and drop you off. Please call W. Russ Campbell at 735-1966 to schedule a ride.

Proficiency

All our preparation this fall paid off when we successfully delivered B. David Steene's third degree on December 7th. We did require assistance in the drama, and thanks to the brethren of Kennewick Lodge #153, everything went off without a hitch.

Youth Groups

The Rainbow Assembly No. 65 is undergoing changes this year. With graduations coming at the end of the year, the need for new members is greater than ever. If you know a young lady between the age of 12 and 18 who might be interested, please contact W. Bob Steele at 547-2264.

Sickness and Distress

If you have any news of a brother in distress, please contact W. Don Cooper at 547-0900.
